I have been up to my eyeballs at work and I haven't had much time to update but I'm back yo...
I was thinking about this topic the other day and thought I would write about it today. Being a good host can be difficult but there are some key things to remember whenever hosting anything.
-If you are serving a set menu for a sit down dinner, try and ask your guests about allergies and or food dislikes. I would feel awful if I served bacon wrapped lobster to a Rabbi. Not that I know any Rabbi's or that I can afford lobster but.. yeah.
- If we are hosting a large party and people ask what they can bring I always say "What you would like to drink." We always make sure we have enough alcohol but if your drink of choice is Peruvian chocolate hot toddy somethin' then you be sh*t out o' luck.
- We have a casual apartment. I grew up in a quasi museum (my mother decorates beautifully) and while it was prisitine and tasteful I realised at a young age I wanted something different. I want our guests to feel comfortable enough to be able to curl up on the sofa or not have a nervous breakdown if they spill red wine on the carpet. (Memo: I hate our brown wall to wall carpeting. Spill away.) If you are nervous that guests will trash your place, cut down on the guest list or put down a tarp. A nervous host = nervous guests.
Crap. Just looked at the clock. I have to run. Part 2 coming up soon.
