It was the Husband's birthday on Saturday so I chose Friday to surprise him. Every year it's the same:
A month before his birthday
G: Dear, please don't do anything for my birthday.
Me: Don't worry I won't.
G: What are you looking at on the internet and where's my credit card?
Me: Um, nothing. I'm just pretending to buy things online.
After his great birthday
G: Dear, I asked you not to do anything for my birthday. I just wanted a quiet day with you. But thank you, it was great.
Me: I know! Right? You have to remember that your birthday is about me. Love you!
So this is what went down... I told him a week ago that we would be meeting friends of my parents for dinner on Friday and he has to come because I say so. He totally believed it. I'm awesome at lying. He had no idea until just before we left for the "restaurant". He figured out that sompthin was up when I didn't tell him to hurry the eff up or we'd be late.
The Surprise?
Dinner at MacDonalds with friends (you guys all rock! you made his year!) and then a trip to the zoo at night with night vision goggles.. How AWESOME! He was stunned and he was so happy- a little sad in his happy even. The tour was great! We saw animals at night with night vision goggles.. I said, we saw animals at night with night vision goggles, legally! This tour is da bomb and the guide was great. We saw a pooping zebra, flamingos, penguins, tigers, jaguars, polar bears, seals, hippos.. It was great and we froze but it was worth it to see his face.
Now to think about what to do next year...This birthday is pretty untoppable. Maybe I'll buy him night vision goggles and set him out in a park for a couple of hours next year.
Formula One season is starting today and I cannot wait! I'm a fan. I admit it.
Happy Sunday!
