I hate April Fool's Day.. I'm a trusting person (read: gullible) and therefore this is the worst day for me. It started when I was about 5 and my mom told me I had been born with a tail and that it fell off when I was about 2. Holy Crap. I was horrified but silently excited as this meant I could tell my friends at school that I had been born awesome. So yeah. I hate being fooled. One TV station this morning played a clip pretending Lady Gaga was in Vienna. Worst impersonation of Gaga ever. The lady had a thick German accent and I think it might have been a small man. Ugh. Bad bad TV station! Speaking of fools...
I watched Fool's Gold yesterday (you see how I set that up. I rock). We had had the DVD for a couple of years and I finally decided to watch it and kill myself on the crosstrainer. Hey! Cute film! I was pleasantly surprised. Growing up watching Romancing the Stone and Indiana Jones, I have this thing about action/romantic comedies/archaeology films. I really love them. Of course you can't beat When Harry Met Sally. I have a few favourite Romcoms but in general I'm tired of them. It's always the same thing. Girl meets Boy, Boy does something wrong, Girl walks away, Boy woos Girl with borderline stalking... It's tiresome. If these films were like real life, we'd have a whole lot of restraining orders. But here is a list of some of my favourite romantic (Action) comedies:
Indiana Jones: All three originals but I have to say the one with Sean Connery as Indie's dad is my favourite. Heart.
Romancing the Stone: There's something about Kathleen Turner's voice that makes me giddy when I get a throat cold. It's awesome.
My Best Friend's Wedding: The ending shocked and appalled me when I watched it the first time. She doesn't get the guy. What? I watched it with my mom and at the end she said "That marriage won't last." I thank her for that. It made me feel better.
When Harry met Sally: nuff said.
Heartbreakers: yes, judge me. This film made me guffaw. Sigourney Weaver can do no wrong.
Undercover Blues: this is embarassing. I was going through a rough patch as a teenager. This film was great. Leave me alone.
16 Candles: nuff said.
Can't Buy Me Love: WHITE LEATHER (or was it suede?) JACKET! Yes. Awesome film.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Seriously. I loved it.
As Good as it Gets: "You make me want to be a better man" I mean ladies, seriously, if we had heard that from any guy before this film wouldn't we have all done something stupid. All I hear is "You make me want to take a walk alone." I jest. Sort of.
Moonstruck: Yes! Cher! I love Cher. Love.
50 First Dates: This was different. It was kind of sad. Her hair was awesome.
While You Were Sleeping: Sandra Bullock made working in a ticket booth look awesome. And I like how Chicago Subway supervisors look like City Mayors and take the time to have a hot dog with their subordinates. And boy, silly woman for choosing Bill Pullman when that guy in the coma went on to be Sandy from the OC. Big mistake. Huge.
Ok. I'll stop for now. I have more. But I have to say I thought Fool's Gold was fun and light. Happy April Fool's Day. Don't make me mad.
