As the weather warms up and I am forced to shave, I start thinking about my Spring/Summer wardrobe. In a couple of weeks time I will have to do the old closet switcheroo and analyse what fits, what's destroyed and what I need. Fun, fun. I decided to check out what the trends for 2010 are and well, some are ok, some I think not. But what's that old saying? Bellybuttons are like opinions, everyone's got one. (Except this one girl I knew when I was a kid and she said they tied the umbilical cord so tightly that she didn't get a bellybutton. I was jealous.). Anyway, here are the supposed trends and my thoughts. Read on if you want to hear my judgemental opinions. Yes! Info from: http://www.fashionising.com/
Hot Pants and Boy Shorts: I like shorts. I have a pair in white and black. They're comfy and good for cycling and picnics. They're cut about mid thigh and have strategically placed pockets and are loose. Thank you H & M. Shorts are tricky though and I implore people to really look at themselves in every angle before purchasing them. Hot pants? Yup, I think not, unless you're planning a trip to the beach, live in OC, or work at Hooters. I'm sorry.
Knee High/ Over the knee socks: I'm not sure why this is a summer trend? Come 18 Celsius I am bare legged.. I banish the stockings until the fall. Banish! I think this would be a cute fall trend- wooly knee socks with a skirt could be cute.. Or that SJP outfit was cute in the film.. Otherwise I'm afraid that your friend Dionne and her boyfriend Murray might just come by and talk about their future life together.
Future Warrior: "Ancient civilisations come to life in leather tunics, metal plating, and war paint" wait, what? Leather tunics and war paint. I don't know about you but that sounds like something kinky. Let me read more of the article before I dismiss this trend completely. Wait a sec. Ok, ok. I get it now. It's a mixture of chainmail ( a word I have never written before) and gladiator and metal plating. They showed a dress that was pretty. I'm calling this look "War of the Titans", obviously based on the film that was just released, in 3D. Meh.
High Dress Splits: That's a trend? Ok. I'm down with it.
Sportswear: Sporty Clothing: The look is mostly 1920's sportswear mixed in with 80's and then some Bond Girl pleather looks. There was one Gatsby inspired sweater that I liked but if I bought that then I would have to buy a house in the Hamptons and play tennis with a wooden racket. It's called accessorising.
Futurism: Kind of looks like Barbarella to me. No complaints. We'll see.
Jumpsuits and Playsuits: Jeebus. I'm not sure. They kind of make me nervous and they kind of make me feel like I'm 6 again and the most important thing to accomplish that day is to buy popsicles with my dad's change. I'm on the fence. Show me a romper that is flattering, then we'll talk.
Military Fashion: This is ongoing and waxes and wanes throughout the years. I love a Russian military style coat with silver buttons. I think it's a classic. The GI Jane look? Not for me but some people rock it.
Patterned and Printed Pants: What?! No! Gawd. What are they thinking?! This is like the 1999 epidemic of Austrian men buying red pants. I kid you not when I say this.
Sheer/See through trend: And the gentlemen go wild! I'm just envisioning a whole lot of white sheer tops with black bras. Shudder.
Boyfriend Blazers: the obvious cousin of boyfriend jeans. I like blazers but I need to wear more fitted ones since I´m top heavy, otherwise I resemble a linebacker.
Jeans: ripped and patched and looks like light coloured ones. Gah! I honestly think it's hard to pull this trend off if you're not stick thin and 16 and angry at the world. But prove me wrong and I'll change my opinion.
So that's some of the trends for Summer 2010. Time to reinvent my look for the upcoming summer of unemployment: renamed "Best Summer EVER!".
Happy Thursday!

I just opened an email that assured me 'spring's favorite denim' is 'jeggings.'
ReplyDelete*sigh*
No, jeggings are not denim. I wrote on your wall that I was conflicted about them. I have to see some on people to make my final decision..I used to be so black and white abuot these things!
