A Passion for Fashion

OK ok. My friend Lucy sent me a link last night with the note "Did you ghost write this?".. This is the link..http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/22/sorority-sisters-fashion_n_433491.html

No. No I did not Lucy! It's an amusing read and I thought that today I would add my comments to this "dress code". In previous posts I have written about certain fashion staples but fashion is also about expressing oneself and expressing one's indviduality. This dress code is about becoming a Stepford Wife.. (for those who know me, I am not a Stepford wife. I drink beer from the can). Anywho, let's take a look see.

Casual Chic:
Her "no's" are funny.
Cropped Pants, ugh! Personally, I like my clam diggers. And I think they herald Audrey Hepburn. To each their own though.
Super "Flared leg" pants! Hmm. I'm not sure what she means by SUPER and the "" but I'm guessing she's talking ABBA pants? Flared pants are flattering on many and I'm wondering what would happen if one showed up with boot cut jeans? I bet she'd grab her pearl necklace and state "Oh My! Heavens No!". Deep breaths, deep breaths.
Khakis. Really? I'm confused. This is a sorority right?
Leggings as pants. Ha! Someone's been watching Gossip Girl. I like my leggings. I am top heavy, my legs are decent. Big top, leggings and I look half a size smaller.
Frumpy. (In reference to tops) This has got me a little confused. I'm not sure I understand. Is this a new designer?
The shoe part frustrates me. I need to take a break. Don't dictate shoes. Please don't. You've nixed half my collection.

Business Casual:
Again with the shoes! Argh! I like the idea of pairing crazy heels with a conservative outfit but I won't suggest that because I "don't want to mess with her". She also hates socks. "I SAID NO WIRE HANGERS!!!".
"Silk is not satin people!" ok. Thanks.

Cocktail:
She hates satin. Woman hates satin. I like satin. I think satin can look great on anyone. It's the cut and the style that matters. I'm thinking she was her older sister's bridesmaid and wore peach satin once and the pit stains are still haunting her.
Did you know that booties are also known as (AKA) "probably not"? I didn't.
She really is wierd about shoes. She's a little scary. I'm seeing the initiation ceremony and I'm imagining a pyre of white/satin/strappy shoes being burned alive.

Accessories:
Bahahahaha! Ok, I agree with the part that accessories can make or break an outfit if you choose to wear them. You don't need accessories to look amazing. I love them but there isn't a rule about them. Feck it. Wear what you like. She scares me.
Feathers? I love feathers!
Chandelier Earrings? Love em!
"I SAID NO INDIGLO WATCHES!! I SAID NO WIRE HANGERS!" Yikes.

I won't lie. I think she's a little anal. I know I can be as well but lordy, I admire other people's style. My friends all dress differently and I love it. Boho, soho, hippie, romantic, preppy, classic, alternative all mixed up. Fashion and style is wearing what makes you look good and feel good. Nothing suits a person more than confidence and when you express who you truly are you will shine.. Shine on you crazy diamond.

Now I need to stop thinking about the Mommy Dearest film and go to work.
