The Capeleted Crusader

I love capelets! They are so Audrey. So perfect for the fall. So classic. I have a couple of them that I bought and they are my go to accessory. They might not provide a whole lot of warmth but they are great for a weekend walk in the park.. or getting up in the middle of the night and you can't find your sweater and your child is screaming bloody murder because the bugger can't find his pacifier even though he is holding it in his hand.. Anyway..

I have a piece of material that I have been planning to use for almost a year. It's a tiny houndstooth print in burgundy and brown. It's a little Sherlock Holmes like.. I love it.. So I decided to Google "How to make a capelet". There were so many sites and so many were super complicated ie. they required panels and darting and thinking.. So I said screw it and used another capelet I owned as a template. The already made one has a loose t-shirt neck and is comprised of two pieces- front and back. Simple. I traced it and added a higher neck - I just guessed how long my neck is (not long). I took the two pieces and sewed then together, hemmed the bottom and the neck and voila (remember to leave a neck hole wide enough to fit your head- I made a collar on this one)..If you don't have a capelet to trace already you don't have to worry. Take a large sweater and use that to measure your shoulders, then flare out from the shoulders for a cape effect. You can make it as short or long as you'd like. My capelet!

Elementary my dear Watson..  ( I need to iron it and the pic doesn't do the print and colour justice)
