Easy Pencil Skirt

I love pencil skirts. I love the look and silhouette. Since I still have ye old post pregnancy belly, I wear a pencil skirt with a longer shirt; ie, my husband's black button up shirt. Why he has a black button up shirt is a mystery to me.. We might have watched the Sopranos and I got inspired. "Eh G! Put this on and then we gotta go whack someone. eeeeehhhh.." Anyway, a pencil skirt (without a zipper) is easy peasy and I suggest starting with stretchy fabric.

Step 1- take a skirt that you own for reference. Does not have to be a pencil skirt. Mark the waist on the material in comparison to your skirt.

Step 2- depending on your waist to hip ratio of course, draw straight down from the waist marks to what you would think would be knee length.  Since it is stretchy material, it should fit. Basically you should have just 2 rectangles. If you are not using stretchy material, then you will have to make an allowance for hip width. I measured and use that as a guide. Basically you should then have just 2 roundish rectangles.

Step 3- hem bottoms and sew pieces together. To make a waist band I used larger elastic for comfort. I folded the top part over and sewed a large hem for the elastic to fit in. Threaded the elastic through and sewed the ends together.. Voila..

I wish I had taken pictures of the process but I forgot.. I made this skirt about a month ago. Here it is in all of its Burberry like print fineness. I looks a little wonky because the hips are bigger on the doll than mine are but yet its waist is smaller than mine.. The jealousy.. it burns!!

It was a nice and quiet weekend.. Got a lot done and yet there is so much more to do before the party on Saturday.. Lots of grocery shopping and lots of pre cooking and a little more decorating and a little more cleaning.. Yay 6 more days!
