Drink

My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard.. And they say "Gosh darnit you're too old. Git inside!". I've laid off the hooch for a week now and I'm feeling a ok. I miss my wine though but otherwise it's good to know that I'm not an alcoholic :/ As I knock back several thousand mg of Vitamin C I think about other concotions to fight the dreaded cold. Le Cold. Das Cold. El Cold. There is the famous Matzoh Ball soup that fights all. The key to Matzoh Ball soup is that when it gets cold, the fat from the chicken should harden on the top. What? That's normal. There was a place called the New York deli in Toronto that my sister introduced me to. It served an amazing Matzoh Ball soup. It was one matzoh and it was immense. I want that noooow. I think I might make myself some tonight. We'll see if I can find Matzoh. We'll see if I can be assed to make it.

Another trick is the bath. There is a company here called Tetesept and it makes bath salts. They have one type that is for people with the cold. It is a minty euklayptusy mix and when poured into a hot bath is heaven for the respiration. I wish I had a pet Koala.

Liquids as in water and tea are great of course. Here's an easy milkshake that has berries and joghurt and is good and healthy.

(Rasp)(Straw)(Any)Berry Milkshake
half a cup of plain joghurt
half a cup of frozen berries
a squirt of honey
3 tbsp of berry juice concentrate/syrup mixed with 1/4 water
2-3 ice cubes

Mix and enjoy. Here's an interesting tip about honey. I suffer from hay fever in Vienna and one person (I'm really sorry I don't remember who) suggested to eat a couple tsp's of local honey. The pollen in the honey is the same as in the air and will help counteract hay fever. Hmm. Inneresting. Will try it when the spring comes.

Well, I better start on my 4th cup of tea and go to the toilet. But I just have a quick question! If you are reading this blog and we aren't friends on FB where I have been relentlessy posting links to my blog, how did you find this blog? I'm tickled pink by the way that someone I don't know is reading this! Yay!!

  1. I hope you defeat el cold. I think I've got H1N1. I'm not sick or anything, but every morning I wake up coughing and since that is not normal for me, I figure I've got it. ;)

Remember when we made Matzoh Ball soup for our heathen Seder using non-passover approved Matzoh!? heeheehee

  3. surprise! surprise! there really is people reading your blog with whom you are not friends on fb - and it's not because we are trying not to reveal any secrets shown on fb and therefore not adding each other, but because i am probably a total stranger.
i think i stumbled upon your blog by accident, or maybe it was somehow linked to the vienna expats homepage where i have just spent quite some time browsing through various threads...
nevertheless it's been funny reading through your blog too, i will try the vodka for my hair (i have only tried beer so far, but i guess it was more for the experience of pouring beer all over myself than really getting nice and shiny hair ;) )
so, i guess that's been enough of a random post now, i hope you enjoy the snow :)
    all the best, johanna

  4. Hi Johanna! Thanks for writing! I'm on VE quite often now- I took a short hiatus from moderating. But now I am back! If you're in Vienna check out our meet and greets and drop by!
Did the beer too one time. I think I ended up drinking most of it :)
