Random Memories

Yesterday I went to a spa.. Friends had bought me a gift certificate for a pregnancy massage and I decided to up the ante and get a facial as well. Now, I don't like being touched in general so massages can be problematic and most massages I have had have been bizarre to say the least. A little blast from my past.

Massage 1- this was about 10 years ago in Canada. A friend of mine had a couple of friends who were just finishing up their massage degrees and offered to give us back massages.. Farmhouse, blue nun wine, middle of nowhere, totally awesome. But random. Seriously random.

Massage 2- Tunisia about 5 years ago. The Husband and I decided on our first 2 week all inclusive holiday. Eu mah gawd we died of boredom by the second week and I opted for a full body massage/exfoliation at the hotel.. It was a nightmare. The gestapo would have been friendlier to this Jew. Seriously. First I was scrubbed down with, I don't know, barbed wire. Then I was hosed down. Then I was oiled up and forced in a sauna for 30 minutes where two other women who had also signed up for the massage were sitting, awaiting their fate, looking terrified.. They were Styrian, we talked about pumpkin oil. I wonder whatever happened to them. Then I was called out and hosed down again. Then scrubbed and told my skin was dirty. Then oiled up and massaged (read: beaten) and then released into the wild. It was a rough hour.

Massage 3- The Husband surprised me with a trip to a castle hotel about 3 years ago that included a massage. Hans or Franz or whatever with the blonde ponytail and earring started with me with the Husband sitting in the room chatting.. Funny how his voice raised an octave everytime Hans or Franz got closer to the boobies.. Never again.

Massage 4- yesterday.. Oh bliss! Seriously.. Besides the struggle to get on the damn table, it was by far the best massage ever. The little lady from Slovakia had Popeye arms and she was amazing. I'm going back. I'm smitten.

What I've learned... Don't get a massage in a farmhouse, drunk, in Tunisia, with your Husband looking on.

After the massage I got a facial and my skin feels incredible. I'm hooked and that's all I want as gifts from the Husband now. If you live in Vienna and are looking for a great day spa check out http://www.labonita.at/  They are super friendly, the prices are reasonable and the massage rooms are all zen and awesome like..

Happy Thursday!
