I gave myself a challenge to make a dress for Kat and John's wedding and I accepted. Was it a dumb challenge? Could have been but it worked out. The invite said black tie and since it was October I wanted to wear something long. I chose burgundy as the colour cause it hides stains well and goes with my complexion of pale blue/yellow. I found wrinkled taffetta at the material store and purchased 3 meters for an awesome price of 45 Euros. Using another long dress as a template, I measured out the length and waist. Two pieces, one shoulder, and voila. I was ready to start sewing. The total time from start to finish was about 4-5 hours. I kept having to make slight alterations and I realised towards the end that the dress was a little loose at the waist.
If I had darted it or brought the waist in I would have had to have added a zipper and that would have most likely ended in tears. Instead I made a belt out of the leftover material and sewed on snaps.. The dress was a success except for the fact that the belt kept unsnapping when I laughed and I tend to laugh a lot. Next time I will sew the belt on..I think the greatest contributing factor to the dress working out so well was the material.. It hid flaws.. and my legs..
The dress.. I want to wear again.. maybe tonight? We're having fajitas..
