Merry Christmas everyone! It's a balmy 13 degrees here in Vienna and it's creepy. It's like a Christmas special at Melrose Place but without a pool. Sigh.
Last night was spent at the in laws and I got some great gifts. My sister in law bought me a Pandora bracelet. I had seen ads for these bracelets but hadn't paid much attention. It's like a charm bracelet but instead it is a "rope" of metal instead of a chain. The charms snap onto the "rope". It's pretty cool and now I must find charms to fill it. Hobby?
Tonight the Husband and I will exchange our gifts and based on the pile below the tree, it is going to be a very merry Christmas. Could that big box be that sewing machine I asked for? Could it? Better be. We'll be having cheese fondue before the big event and then it's present time. Woot!
Christmas day in my family was pretty chillaxed. Santa gifts in the morning followed by German Oven Pancakes. Then the day would be spent playing with our toys and/or watching films. Top choices were Batman (the Michael Keaton ones), Die Hard, or some type of Psycho thriller film. Then it was time for the traditional Christmas dinner at the local Chinese restaurant. There, that's pretty Jewish.
This morning, while the Husband is still sleeping, I made myself some German Oven Pancakes. This is my mom's Christmas breakfast and it isn't meant as a daily dish. The recipe is a family secret (I can't remember the measurements) but this is a similar version.
German Oven Pancakes
8-10 Eggs
1-2 Cups of Milk
1 Cup of flour
Pinch of salt
2 tsp of sugar
Preheat the oven to 190. Beat the eggs and then add just a cup of milk. Add the flour, salt and sugar and mix together until smoothe. Add more milk if the mixture is too thick (think crepe batter consistency). Take two greased cookie sheets and pour the mixture into them, making sure the batter covers the whole pan. Put in the oven for about 10 minutes but keep checking on them. When they are done they should be completely solid and the ends a little browned. Slice the cooked batter into squares and serve on plates. Melt some butter and pour on top of the pancakes and then dust some powdered sugar onto the butter. Awesome.
Last night I talked to my family over in the Great North. Boy I miss them. I got to talk to my two nieces which was great! Christmas truly is about spending time with the ones you love or getting time off from work or watching cheeseball films.. Whatever you're doing today, enjoy it and Merry Christmas!
